Light Challenge editie '25

Assignment

The Light Challenge challenges new generations of students to come up with innovative concepts for lighting, together with students working in other disciplines. For example, students in astronomy, biology, industrial product design, lighting design, 3D/VR design and others.
Multidisciplinary collaboration in order to co-create the final concept.
 
The assignment of Light Challenge ’25 is:
Create an innovative lighting concept for the transition area between the built environment & nature.*
Be aware of the impact on biodiversity, make use of energy generation at microlevel from the immediate environment and give the darkness back to the night

The Light Challenge is divided into three parts as detailed below.

Part 1 | online | students & research:
students conduct independent research, from their field of study, into the subject of the LC ‘25 assignment to gain as much knowledge as possible
 
Part 2 | online | multidisciplinary teams & conceptual design
Teams will be created by LC organisation. new concepts are devised by the multidisciplinary teams. By sharing a lot of insights with each other, learning from masterclasses and new collaborations, a head full of knowledge and experience is passed on to the participants. A feedback moment where teams present their process so far will be overviewed by a jurypanel / team of experts.
 
Part 3 | live | SUMMERSCHOOL & Finale in Groningen

Students will meet in week 28 (7-11 July, exact days tbc) in Groningen for an eventfull SUMMERSCHOOL, finalising their 3D model and concept, and of course a festive Finale where concepts will be presented to the jurypanel and partners of Light Challenge ‘25 and DARKER SKY
